Lost items fees may be charged if you leave your items outside the library.

Follow three easy steps to pick up materials at the library:

Step One: Place your items on hold.

  • Use our website to place a hold with your account online.
  • Or call the library (618-942-6109) to talk to a librarian.
  • Or email the library at herrincitylibrary@gmail.com with your name, contact information (phone and/or email,) library card number, & items you wish to request.
  • If you are unsure of specific titles you would like to request; you can do a general subject request: examples: “5 children’s books about dinosaurs” or “4 Adult Fiction Mystery Books and 1 Romantic Comedy DVD.”  A general subject request must be done by phone or email.
  • You will be notified via text, email or phone when your hold is ready.

Step Two:  Wait for notification, then schedule a time to pick up.

After you receive your notification, call the library and set up a time to pick-up your hold. Have your library card barcode number available. Staff will pull your items, check them out, and put them in a bag.

When you call arrangements may be made for those who are unable to get out of their car and for people who are walking to the library.

Step Three: Pick up your items.

  • Pull up at the front doors of the library and call to let us know you are here.
  • Grab your bag and enjoy!
