BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING
July 10, 2018

PRESENT:                     Hickmam, Guebert, Frost, Priest, Jones, Caringer, Sarver, and Starnes

ALSO PRESENT:           Mullen

ABSENT:                      Savage

Visitor(s):                     None

The meeting was called to order at 6:35 PM by acting President Starnes. 

No correspondence.

SECRETARY’S REPORT:  Frost moved to approve the minutes as corrected from the June meeting.  Jones seconded.  Motion carried unanimously.

TREASURER’S REPORT:

  • Bills to be paid. Mullen presented the treasurer’s report.  Guebert moved to approve the payment of $2,439.99 for expenses incurred during the 2nd half of the previous month and approved $4,647.27 for expenses this month to date.  Caringer seconded.  Motion carried unanimously.
  • June (17% of the year completed) shows that 20% of the expense budget (city budget report) has been used leaving a checking account balance of $58,611.94. Priest moved to approve the city budget report.  Guebert seconded.  Motion carried unanimously.   Priest moved to approve the library balance sheet report for June 2018.  Sarver seconded.  Motion carried unanimously.

LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:  Mullen reported the circulation and usage statistics for the library for the month of June 2018. 

CHILDREN’S LIBRARIAN REPORT: The summer reading program is in full swing and attendance has been high.  Topics have included: World Music, Born Wild, Herrin Train Engine, and Juggling Jeff.

ILLINOIS HEARTLAND LIBRARY SYSTEM REPORT & ILA News:  No report.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Building and Grounds (Priest & Jones):  A walk through inspection was done on June 19, 2018 to assess potential needs regarding the grounds, HVAC and interior. 

Community Enrichment (Sarver):  No report.

Library Development & Technology (Savage & Caringer):  No report.

Special Gifts Committee (Guebert & Frost): No report.

Friends Liaison (Starnes): Starnes submitted a report showing that funding in the amount of $3,144.02 was approved by the Friends for items requested by Mullen, Library Director.

History Room: (Hickman): No report.

OLD BUSINESS:  

  1. Phones: Mullen is investigating the options regarding upgrading the library’s phone system.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance Policy: Mullen is creating an ADA policy for the library in in hopes of making the library more accessible to disabled persons.
  1. CD Renewals: Jones moved to transfer the two CDs set to mature on July 31, 2018 at the Bank of Herrin to Southern Illinois Bank for 18 months at an interest rate of 1.80% and to transfer the CD set to mature on July 15, 2018 at First Southern Bank to Banterra Bank at an interest rate of 1.80% for 17 months. Priest seconded. Motion carried unanimously.

Priest moved to adjourn at 7:10 PM.
