Board of Trustees Meeting
January 10, 2023


Present: Caringer, Frost, Guebert, Hickman, Jones, Maloney, Priest, Sarver
Also Present: Director Susan Mullen
Absent: Calcaterra
The meeting was called to order at 6:29PM by President Kathleen Jones.
Visitor(s): None
Correspondence: None


Secretary’s Report: Guebert moved to approve the minutes, with corrections, from
December 6, 2022. Priest seconded. Motion carried unanimously.


Treasurer’s Report:
A. Bills to be Paid: Priest moved to approve the payment of $2,477.73 for expenses
incurred from December 7-31 and $9,369.10 for expenses incurred from January
1-10. Frost seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
B. City Budget Report and Financial Balance Statement: We are currently unable to
publish this information, as we are waiting on receipt of reports from City Hall.
We do know that we are on track fiscally, and will resume publication of accurate
data as soon as we are able.


Librarian’s Report:
Circulation for December 2022 was 7% greater than December 2021. The Library
currently has 5,288 registered borrowers and 41,372 volumes in its collection. 1,128
patrons used the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) from home in December.
Website visits in December totaled 1,579 page views. Director Mullen attended the
IHLS Director’s Chat sessions via Adobe Connect on December 22 and 29, 2022.
December’s Monthly Movie Matinee featured Where the Crawdads Sing.


Children’s Librarian’s Report:
The Story Hour theme for December 15 was “Gingerbread Man.” Kayla O’Saile read
Gingerbread Baby, by Jan Brett and Gingerbread Mouse by Katie Bratun. 6 children
and 3 adults attended. Gingerbread characters were made from playdough. On
December 22, the film Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch was shown for 8 children and 3 adults.
Popcorn was provided.

Committee Reports:
• Friends Liaison (Maloney):
o The next book sale has been scheduled for Saturday, February 25th and
Monday, February 27th.
o Director Mullen’s request for funding of $142.81 was approved.
o Officers were nominated and are to be voted on in April.

• Community Enrichment (Sarver):
o The Herrin City Library will be exhibiting artwork by Daniel Miyares from
February 27th through April 4th.
o Exhibition Title: Winter Wonders
• Library Development and Technology (Caringer):
o A Library visit and discussion regarding a preliminary annual technology
plan will be scheduled with Director Mullen.
• Special Gifts Committee (Guebert, Frost): No report


Old Business: None
New Business:
• The BoT verified member addresses for annual Statements of Economic Interest.
• The BoT reviewed Director Mullen’s PerCapita Grant application. Priest moved to
approve the application with corrections, Maloney seconded. Motion carried
unanimously.
• The BoT reviewed the new Herrin City Library’s Succession Plan Policy.
Changes were suggested and will be incorporated by Director Mullen. The BoT
will review and approve at the next scheduled meeting.
• Director Mullen received quotes for painting the Library’s Tony Galines meeting
space. Project will move forward.
