Overview:
The Herrin City Library is hiring! We are looking for an attendant to greet and monitor patrons as they enter the building. This is a part-time temporary position that will only be needed as we transition back to fully opened. The position could turn into part-time permanent with a candidate that demonstrates the successful qualities needed. The security attendant will monitor the number of people entering the building, inform patrons of safe social distancing guidelines, perform general security duties, and document unusual incidents. The Library Attendant must act professionally and demonstrate courtesy and respect to all. The hours will be Monday – Friday: 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

Principal Responsibilities:  Under the supervision of the Herrin City Library Director, the Library Attendant Guard:

Enforces the Library’s rules of conduct for all patrons and visitors.

Monitor the number of patrons entering the building and inform patrons of safe social distancing guidelines.

Periodically tours building and grounds, examining doors and windows to determine whether they are secure and not tampered with.

Provide security presence at the front entrance to the library.

Provides Library Director with details of incidents to assist with investigations and documentation of incidents.

Performs related duties as required

Required Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or GED
2+ years of prior security experience

Minimum Qualifications:
Good oral skills and ability to deal tactfully and effectively with staff and public
Must act professionally and demonstrate courtesy and respect to all.
Must pass physical examination
Must pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications:
Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, Security Management is desirable
Experience in Law Enforcement or Military Service is desirable
Be Helpful to patrons and colleagues
Be Resourceful in solving problems
Be Curious in all aspects of your work

Physical Duties:
Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods and conduct foot patrols
Heavy lifting may be required
