Did You Know?
- Location & Hours: The Herrin City Library is located at 120 N 13th Street, Herrin, IL 62948. We are open Monday – Thursday: 10:00 am – 7:00 pm, Friday: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm and Saturday: 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
- Services: We offer faxing, scanning, printing, copying and more. We have 6 Patron Access Computers and WiFi. You do not have to have a library card to use these services.
- Book Sale: The Friends of the Herrin City Library have a book sale every 2-3 months. The next book sale is on Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm, and Monday, February 5, 2024, from 10:00 am – 7:00 pm. The sale will also include yard sale items! Do not miss this one! All proceeds benefit the Herrin City Library.
- Story Hour: Childrens’ Story Hour is every first and third thursday of the month at 10:30 am. We read a story or two, have an activity or craft, and sometimes a treat. Story Hour is free and open to the public.
- New Forthcoming Titles for Winter 2024 have been ordered and added to our system. You may place a hold on these with your Account Online, at the Circulation Desk. or by calling the library @ 618-942-6109. Forthcoming titles are books that are coming soon!
- HHR Museum: The north wing of the Herrin City Library is now home to a museum. Browse our memorabilia, artifacts and displays related to the History of Herrin, Illinois. Also, in the history area, you’ll find our growing collection of archival information about Herrin and Williamson County.
- Local History Research Shelf: We have a local history research shelf in the Herrin History Room Museum. The local history research shelves house books about history, genealogy research and Herrin High School yearbooks.
- Genealogy Research Computer: The history area has a dedicated Genealogy Research Computer. Use of the Genealogy Research Computer is both first come first serve and by reservation. Please call the library if you would like to book a time to use the Genealogy Research Computer @ 618-942-6109. Use of the Genealogy Research Computer is also independent research. If you would like assistance getting started, you must book a librarian ahead of time. Please email (herrinhistoryroom@gmail.com) or call the library at @ 618-942-6109 to request an appointment.The Genealogy Research Computer has access to: Ancestry Library Edition, Familysearch.org – Affiliate Library, Computer Scans of our collection of microfilm of Herrin News & Herrin Daily Journal from the 1800s to about 1945., Coal Mines of Illinois – Williamson County, Illinois Mining Accidents, & Find a Grave.
- Herrin History Room: The history area is also home to the Linda Jennings Banks History Room. Available to researchers by appointment only. The History Room houses the bulk of our history collection including previous research, old documents, paper copies of the Herrin Spokesman, and historical photographs. - New Family Tree Magazine: Herrin City Library now subscribes to Family Tree Magazine. You may find this magazine in the Magazine and Newspaper section of the library. Find more useful Genealogy resources on the Herrin History Room page.
- Meeting Room: Herrin City Library has a meeting room which may be rented by groups and public organizations? The meeting room may be rented for $25.00 for up to four hours which includes set-up and clean-up time before and after. Any additional hour is $10.00 per hour. The primary purpose of the meeting room is to support library functions and to promote the library’s programs of service to the community. If you are interested in reserving the meeting room, take a look at our Meeting Room Policies Page for more information. To reserve the room, you may fill out the Meeting Room Reservations Form and email, mail, or bring it to the library. The Herrin City Library Meeting Room offers a multimedia center with TV, DVD, CD, HDMI, Stereo Audio Capabilities and more; a kitchenette with a sink, refridgerator, and microwave; and a seating with tables and chairs.
