Herrin City Library presents Sean Burns, guest speaker
SEAN BURNS – ” A Woman From Spillertown: A Memoir of Agnes Wieck”
Sean Burns will speak Friday, December 17, 2021 @ 2:00 pm in the Herrin City Library in the Tony Galines Meeting Room.
He will discuss the book written by Agnes Wieck’s son, David Thoreau Wieck “A Woman From Spillertown: A memoir of Agnes Wieck” is available on Amazon or by request at local libraries. Burns is a great nephew and HAHS Board member, Judy Hampton, is a great niece of Agnes Burns Wieck. Burns holds a Masters’ degree in History and Social Change from the University of Illinois – Springfield. He wrote his Masters’ thesis on his Aunt Agnes and her role as the first President of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Progressive Miners of America. He will share her story. For over two decades Sean worked as a HS social science teacher and is currently employed as a labor organizer by the Illinois Education Association. Both sides of his family (Finney and Burns) have roots in coal mining and Williamson County. He resides near Springfield, Illinois with his wife, Jamie.
