Herrin City Library Reopens June 15th
Herrin City Library will reopen on Monday, June 15, 2020, with limited hours and with masks required.
Library hours beginning June 15, 2020, will be Monday – Thursday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Friday, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, and Senior Hours will be 10:00 am – 11:00 am. The library will be limiting the number of patrons who are allowed in the building at one time. There will be separate entrances and exits; hand sanitizer, wipes, and masks will be available.
Know before you go:
- Hours: Monday – Thursday: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Friday: 10:00 – 3:00 pm, and closed Saturday & Sunday
- Senior Hour: Monday – Friday: 10:00 am – 11:00 am. Seniors may visit anytime, but this hour is reserved for our patrons 60 years and older.
- Curbside is still available by appointment only. When the library reopens, patrons may also continue to use Curbside Pickup. Starting Monday, June 15th, curbside pickup will be in the east parking lot in the back of the building. Look for signs directing you to curbside pickup. Patrons are able to place requests online or call the library, and then call the library to set up a time to pick up.
- Sanitize your hands before entering the building and sanitize your hands often. Sanitizer is available throughout the library.
- Masks or face-coverings will be required for everyone 2 years of age and older. Bandannas, non-medical masks, scarves, and cloth may be used. We have masks available for free for anyone who does not have one
- Use the outdoor book return. All books, dvds and other items should be returned at the outdoor book return. The indoor book return is closed.
- 30 minute time Limit. There is a 30 minute limit per patron per day for browsing, checkout, computer use, and all other services.
- One person per computer. No doubling up or sitting together at the computers as this will not enable safe distancing from other patrons.
- One child per adult.
- Keep a safe distance. One person per aisle in the stacks while looking for books. Maintain a distance of 6 feet at all times.
- All meeting and study rooms are closed.
- Borrowing books from other libraries will not resume until July.
- Printing, copying, scanning, and faxing services will be also be available.
Patrons who have library items may start returning them in the outdoor book return as of May 29th. Returned items will be quarantined for five days before being checked in and returned to circulation
There are no late fees; the library instructed patrons to keep checked-out print materials and DVDs, etc., at home during the state shutdown two months ago. During the shutdown, patrons have been able to check out digital materials. The Herrin City Library has also been offering curbside pickup service since May 18, 2020. Story times have been conducted via Facebook Live. Summer Reading began June 4, 2020, via Facebook Live with Ben Elliott from SIUC presenting Dinosaurs. The Herrin City Library is using safety guidelines from the Illinois Heartland Library System, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department.
