Early Southern Illinois History: A Bicentennial Celebration
The HAHS Society Guest Lecture Series presents Early Southern Illinois History: A Bicentennial Celebration. Ed and Diane Annable will present this program at 2:00 pm, Friday, July 20, 2018, at the Herrin City Library Tony Galines Meeting Room. Residents of Cyprus, Illinois, the Annables have studied the history of southernmost Illinois for twenty-five years. In celebration of the state’s bicentennial, the Annables have written Six Years in the Illinois Territory, 1812-1818: When Johnson County Spanned From River to River. When Johnson County was created in 1812, its boundaries spanned from the Ohio to the Mississippi rivers and extended northward to include land now occupied by the towns of Carbondale and Herrin. In April, the Annables received the coveted Delta Award from SIU-C’s Friends of Morris Library, given to those who have contributed literature to the region’s cultural life.
The event is free and open to the public.
